Making physics accessible through hands-on experimentation

From 2016 to 2022, I supported the HASP student laboratory at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg. The laboratory gives school students a practical introduction to experimental physics — not only through demonstrations, but through hands-on experimentation, observation, and discussion.

Key responsibilities

• Guided student groups through physics experiments in the laboratory.
• Explained complex physical phenomena in a way that matched different age groups and levels of prior knowledge.
• Built, tested, and improved experimental setups and demonstrations.
• Balanced safety, robustness, and scientific accuracy when working with laboratory experiments.
• Supported the maintenance and development of the laboratory’s catalogue of experiments.

This work strongly shaped my interest in teaching and science communication. It taught me how important it is to explain advanced concepts in a way that invites curiosity and allows students to make their own observations.
